List of Damages That Hail Can Do To Your Home

Bad weather can take a huge toll on your roof. Rains may not cause any damage to your roof, but hail is a completely different thing. Damage caused by the impact of hail won’t be visible instantly but will result in premature aging of your roof.

Note: If there was a hailstorm in your area, you should get your roof inspected by a good roofing contractor in Massachusetts.

Here is a list of the damage hail can cause to your roof:
  1. Loss of granules: When the hailstones make an impact on a roof, it can cause surface depression and loss of granules at the point of the impact. Loss of granules will accelerate the aging process of your roof. Also, this will deteriorate the appearance of the shingles.
  2. Deepen the cracks: Hailstones can deepen the cracks and make them radiate outward, which could have been present in the granules-asphalt surfacing.
  3. Loosen the shingles: The impact of the hailstone can easily loosen the seals around the shingles thereby weakening the seal integrity.
  4. Enlarge the shingle holes: If there was even a small hole in your shingles, hailstones will enlarge this and make it a large hole.
  5. Will expose the inner materials: Ultraviolet rays from the Sun can degrade and loosen the underlayment.
Hails cause different types of problem to different material. It can cause indentation on metal flashing, and pitting and spitting on wooden. The size of the hailstones can vary significantly and can be as big as the size of a golf-ball.

It is important that proper inspection of the roof is carried out after hailstorm to make sure the damage is confined to one place of the roof.
